Hi, I’m Jack! I’m an HDR student from the humanities.

I want to give a voice to postgraduates across the university. In a corporatised institution, and especially in unpredictable pandemic conditions, we need to speak up and make sure we’re not taken advantage of or left behind.

I am a union activist and am part of NTEU Fightback. This year I stood against the uni’s deal with the NTEU executive, which cuts staff’s pay and conditions while not guaranteeing jobs protection (especially for casuals). All staff (and therefore all students) lose under this pay cut deal.

I will use this position to promote organising among casual workers. For too long the uni has made a killing from our precarity and low pay.
