The union exists to represent Adelaide University students and ensure people of all backgrounds feel welcome, supported and safe on campus.
The AUU board has recently shifted away from its primary role of improving student welfare. This year, the board blocked the affiliation of the Women’s Collective and the Pro Choice Club. I strongly support the affiliation of these clubs in order to ensure that there are safe communities for everyone on campus.
The AUU was also slow to act during the Covid-19 crisis, where unions across the country were in emergency mode making sure students were supported through hardship. The AUU should always be doing everything it can to maintain the wellbeing of Adelaide University students.
The board has also become increasingly confidential by blocking students and On Dit from attending the majority of meetings. As an AUU Board Member I will seek to ensure that the union is transparent in its decision making so members can be held accountable by the students they represent.
The AUU plays an important role in improving the university experience for all students. Vote for the UNITE team this election to ensure that this primary role is reflected in the decision making of the AUU.
