This year, we’ve seen the tragedy of George Floyd's murder unleash a wave of rebellion across the world. I’m proud to have been involved in the fight against racism in Adelaide as an organiser of the Black Lives Matter protests. The June 6 anti-racist demonstration I helped organise saw 10,000 people march the streets of Adelaide calling for an end to black deaths in custody and the systems of racist policing that Aboriginal and African people face in Australia.
I’ve also been involved in numerous anti-racist struggles over my years as a student activist, including actions for refugee rights, Palestinian liberation, and against islamophobia. As a young Muslim man, I was particularly proud to organise the Solidarity with Christchurch demonstration.
As Environmental Officer on the SRC this year I spoke at and supported the organisation of protests against Scomo as bushfires devastated the country. I also spearheaded the Adelaide fightback against education cuts alongside Left Action’s presidential candidate Ana Obradovic.
As SRC General Councillor, I will fight for a left-wing SRC that leads campaigns against racism and contributes to the ongoing global movement against racial injustice
