It’s time we had environmental activists on council to ensure that the University is doing all it can to combat the rising threat of climate change. As president and founder of the Adelaide University Greens Club, and as a founding member of the statewide Young Greens, I’m deeply invested in this movement, and have a record to back that up. I’ve worked closely with many of the Greens politicians working around the country to ensure the environment is preserved for the generations who come after us. It’s important to recognise climate change is not the fault nor the responsibility of the individual to solve, we must hold large organisations like the University and the corporations it works with to account, it’s unacceptable that a University that claims to be on the forefront of progress still associates with petroleum and mining companies. It’s not all about the big scale though, and as an environmental officer I would also focus on improving the day to day environment, and creating a healthy and sustainable atmosphere for all on campus. Thank you for your consideration, and remember to vote for the entire UNITE team for AUU & SRC.
