Hi, I’m Nix! I’m a PhD student from the Humanities. I’m running with the Left Action team to fight for a university that works for students and staff, not profits.
University management continues to prioritise its bottom line over student learning conditions and staff working conditions. As a casual tutor, I know how ballooning class sizes, precarious employment and job losses are eating away at our education. Governments cut funding, raise fees and keep welfare and stipends below the poverty line. The Adelaide University merger will only worsen this situation through trimesters and further corporatisation.
This situation must change. I’m a proud, long-time activist who’s raised my voice for social justice. In past SRC roles, I helped lead the campaign against Adelaide University’s fossil fuel investments. I’ve campaigned against cuts and mergers and for solidarity with Palestine.
Left Action thinks our student unions organising collective action and standing against university management and the government is the most important way to fight back. This is what we’re about: not cosying up to those in power, but organising students and staff to champion progressive politics and fight for our rights.
