Gen Sec Hi, I’m Xenon and I’m running for General Secretary with Left Action. I've been involved in organising the Gaza Solidarity Encampment and the Student General Meeting on campus this year. Students are under attack from multiple angles, from the cost of living crisis to the upcoming merger that will see hundreds of staff cuts, worsening the quality of education for students even further. On top of this, the university maintains ties to weapons companies complicit in the genocide in Gaza, and fossil fuel companies that profit off the destruction of the environment. To counter these crises, we need to build a left wing student movement that can challenge the power of the profit hungry University admin and their corporate backers. Activists from Left Action have spearheaded the Palestine solidarity campaign on campus, as well as leading campaigns against staff cuts and against transphobe Posie Parker in previous years. I think the SRC should be an activist body that takes left wing positions and fights the university when they attack students, not one that sucks up to management and helps sell attacks on education to students.
