Hi, I’m Valerie! I’m a student activist and Left Action’s candidate for Queer Officer.
This year, I've stood against injustice by helping organise the Gaza Solidarity Encampment and the Student General Meeting for Palestine. It’s essential that LGBTI students raise our voices for Palestine and refuse to accept the pinkwashing of Israel’s genocide.
Meanwhile, around the world, the political right are rolling back our rights. This global backlash has seen the emergence of far-right bigots like Posie Parker and Andrew Tate. We’ve seen increasing attempts to undermine trans healthcare. Here in Australia, religious conservatives and the far-right have targeted Drag Queen Story time events. Anti-LGBTI legislation such as the Religious Discrimination Bill remains a threat.
Students must stand against this and help build a movement to drive the far-right bigots off our streets and out of politics. Left Action is proud to have led campaigns against homophobia, transphobia and sexism. We organised the successful protests against transphobe Posie Parker and the pro-abortion protests in response to the overturning of Roe. V Wade in America. If elected, I’ll build on these campaigns for social justice.
Vote [1] Left Action for an activist student union!
