This year, members of Left Action organised a Palestine solidarity campaign on campus. We set up the Gaza Solidarity Encampment, and organised protests against Adelaide University’s deals with weapons companies.
Unfortunately, the current members of the YouX board were totally silent on the war on Gaza. In the name of being “apolitical” they have refused to take a stand on important social justice and environmental issues.
We think this needs to change. From solidarity with Palestine to action on climate change, YouX should be leading campaigns, not sitting on the sidelines.
We also want a YouX that campaigns against cuts on campus. The deputy vice-chancellor has said that new legislation could lead to job losses in the uni merger. Our activists have been longtime education campaigners. We opposed the corporate merger, and with it going ahead we need YouX to stand against any job losses and course cuts.
The merger also means a new student union. We need activists who will set that union on a better path. Are we going to see another decade of a soulless, right-wing corporate board, or an activist union that fights for students and the oppressed?
The choice is clear: vote Left Action.
