Left Action is resolutely pro-Palestine and as a part of Left Action I have been a part of organising solidarity protests, the Gaza Solidarity Encampment, and now the Student General Meeting for Palestine. I’m running for education officer because I think students ought to have a democratic say over what their education goes toward. As it stands the university is further integrating itself into the Australian war machine and deepening its ties with companies who are arming Israel’s genocidal war. I think that the role of the student union is not to rubber stamp the policy of university management but to organise students to fight for their rights. When arts degrees are costing upward of $50,000 and international students are being extorted at quadruple the rate we should be fighting for free education for all. When the university merger is going to mean staff cuts and rushed overpopulated classes with the push to trimesters, we should be campaigning against the merger. And when the university wants to funnel students into industries of climate destruction and genocide then we should be fighting to say we want control over our education. Vote [1] Left Action for an Activist Student Union!.
