Further to the statement regarding the removal of the On Dit Editor, please find more details about the decision below.

Following numerous complaints from within the student body, the motion to convene the committee was unanimously passed by the YouX Board.

The Committee is comprised of three members, the YouX President or their nominated representative, the YouX Executive Officer or their nominated representative, and a representative from Student Care.

After being formed the Committee sourced relevant evidence and collected submissions prior to meeting. The On Dit Editor was invited to attend the Committee meeting to answer questions and provide her own submissions.

This decision is in no way an attempt to censor or undermine the independence of On Dit. On Dit may continue to write and publish content, views and opinions on any issues it wishes.

The decision of the Committee and YouX Board specifically relates to how the point of view was put across and the conduct of the individual in promoting that message.

No.

The findings and investigation by the Committee specifically relate to the behaviour and conduct of the On Dit Editor rather than the initial article. The Committee meeting took place on Thursday 8 September, with the resulting removal of the Editor at the YouX Board meeting on Tuesday 13 September.

Yes, all three members of the Committee reached the same conclusion and findings.

The decision to remove the Editor was passed by the YouX Board at the Ordinary General Meeting on Tuesday 13 September, this followed a referral from the Student Media Independent Committee which met to review their investigation on Thursday 8 September.

This review and investigation has been run entirely by YouX, YouX is an independent, student-governed organisation. The University has had no role or part in the Committee investigation and resulting dismissal.

No action will be taken by YouX to censor or undermine the Student Media teams. We understand that differences of opinion will always exist amongst individuals and groups at a University of our size. We value diversity, and advocate for respectful and constructive debate.

50% of the honorarium allocation has already been awarded to the Editor upon the completion of Semester 1. Following her dismissal, the remaining allocation will not be granted.

On Dit Editors are elected by current students at the University of Adelaide during the Student Elections held annually in August and/or September. All students are encouraged to vote and have their say during elections, with elected student representatives helping to shape the campus culture here at the University.

The Student Media teams receive a Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) allocation from YouX. YouX provides administrative support and advice but ultimately Editors/Directors have editorial independence.

The article is currently under review by online publication platform Medium, this is a completely independent process. YouX will not enforce the removal or amendment to the article.

All enrolled students at the University may submit content to the On Dit Editorial team to publish at their discretion.

The decision of the Board is final and concludes all actions and investigations on this matter.

On Dit is an independent student publication which is produced each year by a group of elected students. YouX provides funding and administrative support to the Editors of On Dit to ensure they can produce the publication. As elected representatives, the On Dit Editors are subject to the same rules and policies of YouX applied to other elected representatives. On Dit Editors are uniquely entrusted with editorial independence including the right to freely criticise YouX or the University. On Dit is run completely independently of the University.

The University provides funding to YouX through a distribution of the Student Services and Amenities Fee each year, however YouX is an independent entity with its own governance structure and has the right to make independent decisions about how it funds and delivers activities. On Dit is run completely independently of the University.
