Professor Louise Hull and the great team of doctors and nurses at the PARC Research Centre, located within the Royal Adelaide Hospital, invite you to be part of this important trial. They will care for you throughout the study period, and you can withdraw from the trial at any time if the device doesn’t suit you.
Alyra Biotech is our Adelaide-based biopharma company developing an entirely novel way to manage pelvic pain in women with dysmenorrhoea. www.alyrabiotech.com
These women have excess immune activation in their uterus that impacts the central nervous system via nerves in the uterus, circulating immune cells and circulating cytokines.
It is the feminine version of the Gut-Brain Axis, and fits with the higher frequency of chronic pain conditions in women.
Our Alyra Device turns down immune activation in the uterus to normalise immune activation of the central nervous system with minimal blood levels and thus minimal potential for adverse effects.
We successfully completed our ‘first-in-human’ clinical trial in Adelaide in 2024, and are now undertaking a larger trial in 2025.
The device is patented, made and tested in Adelaide.
It’s a great opportunity for Adelaide women with period pain as they receive free of charge:
* a high quality specialist endometriosis vaginal scan
* the opportunity to interact with 6 top female gynaes from Adelaide, and try an IUD under well supported conditions
* green whistles to reduce pain on device insertion
* $1200 for those who complete the trial
* the choice to have a free mirena inserted (or not) if they choose to do so at the end of the trial
* being part of a trial that could entirely change the management of pelvic pain in women
* a period and pelvic pain management resource at the end of the trial
We are looking for:
* women aged 18-45 with period pain (endo or no endo/previous pregnancy or no previous pregnancy - all fine)
* not already on hormonal treatments
* not on regular opioids
* able to attend PARC for 6 visits over 4 months and 2 followup phone calls
* prepared to spend 10 minutes every day to carefully enter their period and pain information into the trial APP on their phone
HREC approved through CAHLN.
The gynaecologists working with Louise for the study are Dr Tran Nguyen, Dr Rittuparna Dutta, Dr Sally Reid, Dr Anna Kate Nicholson and Dr Anna Dalton
