At the Adelaide Medical School, University of Adelaide, we are seeking male volunteers with type 2 diabetes to participate in research investigating the effects of the mineral calcium (commonly found in foods) on the time it takes for a meal to empty from the stomach, and the effects on blood glucose.
You will receive a tax-free honorarium of up to $420 for your time spent in our clinic.
This study will require your presence at a short screening visit, and three separate appointments lasting approximately 5 hours each.
Appointments will need to take place during weekday mornings, but we are flexible with availability of weekdays and can often work around your weekly ⁄ daily commitments.
Eligibility criteria:
* Male
* Aged 18-70 years
* Your BMI (weight/height squared: kg/m*m) will need to be 28-38
* No other significant illness
* HbA1c of 6%-7.9% (we will test this at a screening if unsure)
* With or without impaired fasting glucose (>6.1 mmol/L)
* No food allergies and not following a specific diet (such as gluten free or vegetarian)
* Not currently trying to lose or gain weight
* Non-smoker
