A student may receive a notification of a suspected breach of the University’s Academic Integrity Policy if they have:
  • Not followed the exam instructions as provided to you
  • Not referenced your work correctly
  • Submitted an assignment indicating it is your own independently produced work when in fact it has been produced collaboratively or with inappropriate help from others
  • Submitted work which is very similar to another student’s work
  • Submitted the same piece of work in two different courses
  • Falsified data, clinical placement hours, or other information related to assessment tasks
  • Communicated with others during an exam
  • Accessed or copied unauthorised materials in any exam condition (electronic or otherwise)
  • Allowed another person to complete or submit academic work that you represent as your own
  • Invented references

There may be other instances not listed here which could trigger the University to send you a notification regarding a breach of the Academic Integrity policy. You are encouraged to review this policy and consider the circumstances that have led to the notification.

If you receive a notification, you will be asked to respond in writing and/or given the option to attend a meeting to discuss the matter further. You will be required to provide an explanation for what has occurred.

You must respond to this request within 10 days. It is in your interests to respond within the required timeframe, otherwise, the matter will be decided without your input.

Penalties for breaches of the Academic Integrity policy vary according to the specific circumstances. Please refer to the Academic Integrity Policy section(s) 2.8 and 3.11. Confirmed breaches of the policy are recorded on the University Academic Integrity Register for future reference and, depending on the seriousness of the case, may be referred to the Student Misconduct Tribunal.

The Academic Integrity process is confidential, it is not recorded on your transcript and not reported to any entities external to the University.

Appeal options are outlined in the Student Grievance Resolution Process. Specific timeframes and process apply to Academic Integrity appeals. They are outlined here.
