Preferred Name:

Ashraf

Degree and year of study?

Second Year Computer Science Bachelors

What inspired you to engage with the office and role(s) you currently hold?

The Australian Government with the Labor party is currently overseeing some of the most severe cost of living crises in living history.

This is all the while the rich are getting richer and our governments are bringing us closer to war. Not to mention spearheading a campaign against refugees and migrants demonising them while our ruling classes walk free.

I took this position because I want to use it as an anti-racist one. I see racism connected to a myriad of other oppressions faced in this barbaric capitalist system. It’s not muslims, indigenous, immigrants or queer people who cause our suffering but it’s the ones from the top.

What Clubs are you involved with at UofA?

Socialist alternative. It’s how I got involved with student activism on campus and how I connected these struggles with the struggle against capitalism!

What led you to join the club(s)?

The need to alleviate the suffering I witness around the world. To fight against the helplessness and clarify who the real enemy is in terms of who’s responsible for the many crises we face

Favourite holiday destination/activity?

At a protest with a megaphone in hand!

Favourite place to study on campus?

The hub

What do you hope to achieve in your office and role(s) in 2024?

Continue to advocate and fight the Labor government.

To fight The rich, the ruling classes anywhere and everywhere

To advocate for a free Palestine and to put socialist politics and political activism from outside of the margins and into the mainstream

Our universities have ties to destructive companies like Santos, Lockheed Martin, SAAB systems. I want to build campaigns and protests against these corporations.

Universities should be institutions for learning not think-tanks that funnel students into heavy arm manufacturing or oil and gas companies.

What advice would you give to students starting out at the University of Adelaide

Get involved! Universities are political, campus is politics and what we do here matters to the outside world.
